Beatrix Malhazes’ major retrospective at the Perez Art Museum in Miami was a joy. I saw this following an afternoon in Wynwood, Miami’s vibrant art district.
The pieces are very large, many over 200 cm. I feel under the spell of her work. And its gorgeous!
Here method of painting is fascinating, a bit like printmaking. She paints some of the shapes on plastic and then transfers them to the canvas. The resulting surface is weathered and imperfect.
